Assistive Technology
HAJs Assistive technology means any item, piece of equipment, service animal, or product system, whether acquired commercially, modified, or customized, that is used to increase, maintain, or improve functional capabilities and can also support increased community inclusion, including in employment settings. Assistive technology is devices/supports not otherwise available through any funding source that are suitable to enable the person to function with greater independence, avoid institutionalization and reduce the need for human assistance. Assistive technology services include, but are not limited to Personal Emergency Response System (PERS), an electronic device that enables persons who are at high risk of institutionalization to secure help in an emergency. Also, smart home devices to support the person in their living space to live as independently as possible with less support from another support staff.
